Annapurna Base Camp Trekking Overview

Annapurna Base Camp Trekking takes you to the diverse Himalayan Landscapes through remote villages, alpine forests, and fast flowing rivers. Witness some of the highest mountains in the world including, Annapunra I, Annapurna South, Mt. Dhaulagiri, Tilicho, Pisang Peak, etc. ABC trek is also known Annapurna Sanctuary Trek. The ABC Trek start with countryside drive from Pokhara to Nayapul then walk to Ghandruk. After then you will pass through different small villages of Chhomrong, Bamboo, Deurali, and all the way to ABC. Before ABC, trail goes pass through Machhapuchre Base Camp. You can also do this trek combining with Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek or Mardi Himal Trek.If you choose one of these options then route might be slightly different. Also, ABC trek with Annapurna Circuit Trek is very easy to combine. It can be very long trek of 20-25 days if you want to combine both trek.

How difficult is Annapurna Base Camp Trekking?

The maximum elevation of ABC trek is 4130 meter. So, travelers who are used to hiking or trekking can easily do this trek. However, if you are beginner it can be a bit challenging one. You will be walking almost 5-6 hours gaining 500-1000 meter elevation every day. It is very important to be healthy and fit state to complete this trek. During the trek, drink as much water as you can to get rid of Altitude sickness. If you can avoid Altitude sickness, you can complete this trek quite easily.

Annapurna Base Camp Trekking permits

You will need two permit to do ABC trek. TIMs (Trekkers Information Management System) and ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Project) are two trekking permits for ABC. TIMs costs you NRP 2000 (16 USD) and ACAP costs you NPR 3000 (25 USD).

Trekking Gear for ABC Trek

Trekking to ABC with proper gear and equipment makes the trip easy and comfortable. Always pack up your trekking gear wisely, don’t overpack. Hiking Thermal, Fleece Jacket, Wind Cheater, Down Jacket, trekking pants, warm socks, sleeping bag, toiletries, etc. are the most common gear you need to carry during the ABC Trek. Likewise, carry basic medical kit, sunscreen, lip balm, sun glasses, etc. However, before trekking to ABC, we will check the required gear so, you don’t have to worry about it.

 

Itinerary

After your arrival at Tribhuwan International airport, our staff will be there to pick you up and transfer you to the hotel.

Today, you will be introduced to your trekking guide. Likewise, we will explain you about the gear you need for the trek, trekking details, etc. You can utilize this day buying the trekking gear and other last minute shopping for the trek.

The tourist bus from Kathmandu to Pokhara leaves at 7 am from near Thamel. It will be 7-8 hours’ drive through the bumpy highway. However, you have option to fly to Pokhara from Kathmandu. It is just 25 minutes flight. However, due to bad weather sometimes flight can get delayed. So, it is up to you which option you choose.

    After having early breakfast, we will drive to Nayapul from Pokhara around 8 am. It takes approximately 1 hour to reach Nayapul. The trail goes through the terrace farmlands all the way to Ghandruk. Ghandruk is the Gurung Settlement. You can see splendid views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Mt. Fishtail from Ghandruk. Likewise, the beauty of Ghandruk Village is the lifestyle and culture of Gurung People. Overnight stay at Ghandruk.

    Today you will talk to Ghommrong via Kimrong Danda. The closer you get to chommrong, more scenic views of mountains can be seen. During March-April, the trail is covered with beautiful rhododendron flowers. It makes the trail even more pleasing and beautiful. Overnight stay at Chommrong.

    The trek starts with amazing morning through the lush green hills. You will trek down to stone-built stairs following the trail to a bridge. After crossing the bridge then you will enter into the rhododendron and oak forests. Then again climb up the stairs before you reach Sinuwa Village. Few tea houses and hotels can be seen in Sinuwa village. Crossing sinwa village, Annapurna III is on the sight. Another ascending from Sinuwa village takes you to Bamboo. Overnight stay at Bamboo.

    This could be challenging day of this trek. Likewise, the trail keep changing from Sub-tropical to Alpine during the trek. Take it as a slow and steady walk today as you will be gaining the height of 4000 feet. The mix trail of ups and downs with muddy trail takes you to Himalaya. Few landslide and avalanche-prone areas will be ahead on your way. Overnight stay at Deurali.

    Today we will be trekking two Base camps, Annapurna Base Camp and Macchapuchre Base Camp. One of the exciting days of this trek. The trail passes through the valley with Modi Khola rushing behind you. Walk through rocky terrain about an hour to reach Bagar. Crossing the bridge of Modi Khola Macchapuchre Base Camp is 30 minutes away. On the left you can see the views of Annapurna ranges, while majestic Macchapuchre ranges are in front of you. As you get close to the ABC, you get beautiful sight of mountains surrounding you. 360 degree views of Mt. Ghangapurna, Annapurna Ranges, Mt. Fishtail and many more peaks from the camp. Live and cherish every moment you got during your time at the camp.

    Today you will have longest day of trekking retracing the trail back to Bamboo. The trail is quite easy as you will be climbing down today. Enjoy the mesmerizing sunrise striking at the face of Annapurna Massif. After having breakfast with sunrise view we will start to trek down to Bamboo via, MBC, Deurali, Himalaya, and Dovan. Relax yourself in the lodge of Bamboo after long journey.

    After a week of trekking, relax yourself in Natural Hot spring at Jhinu Danda. The trail goes back through the same route to Sinuwa via Chomrung Khola. From Chommrong, ascending and descending for 1.5 hours will lead you to Jhinu Hot Spring.

    The last day of your trip is almost driving 3-4 hours to Pokhara. Trail descend down from Jhinu Danda to Mathque for an hour. Overnight stay at Pokhara.

    You will have two options today. If you want to spend few more days in Pokhara then you can stay here just to relax a bit. But if you want to drive back to Kathmandu then either you can fly back to Kathmandu it take a tourist bus.
