Langtang Valley Trek Overview
Langtang Valley Trek is Nepal's most underrated classic trek near the Kathmandu valley. Leave the chaos and crowds of Kathmandu Valley behind and explore the awe-inspiring Langtang Valley. However, most trekkers are still unknown of this delightful trek in the remote areas of the Langtang region. The trek takes you to the highest elevation of 4000 meters. However, if you climb Tserko Ri, the highest altitude is 5000 meters.
Trekking to Langtang Valley begins with the 6-7 hours of drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. After then, the trek takes you through Sherpa and Tamang villages to the Langtang Valley. The moment you enter Lama Hotel, views of Langtang Lirung (724in) in the distance can be seen. Similarly, passing through Langtang National Park, experience the varieties of flora and fauna, Yak pasture, and the fast-flowing Langtang River.
How long is the Langtang Valley Trek?
Trekking to Langtang region is approximately 77km which includes climbing Kyanjin Ri. However, if you decide to climb Tserko Ri add around 10 km to your trip. The best itinerary for the Langtang trek is of 6-7 days. But, you can also combine this trek with Tamang Heritage Trek adding 3-4 more days.
Weather in Langtang Valley
It is very important to know the weather of any particular trekking route so that no trekkers can enjoy the views of Himalayan peaks without any disturbance. The best season to do Langtang Trek is Autumn and Spring. In these two seasons, the temperature is very moderate, and wonderful mountain views can be witnessed. The temperature is around 5-7 degrees Celsius during the Autumn season. Whereas during the Spring season, the temperature gets around 12-15 degrees Celsius. But during the night, the temperature might get chilly.
During the months of Summer which is also a monsoon season in Nepal, this trekking is not recommended. The highest temperature during the summer is 30 degrees Celsius in the lower region. Moreover, during monsoons, there is always the risk of muddy and wet trails, which can also be dangerous. Likewise, during the winter season, there is always a high chance of snowfall, making the trail a bit difficult. The temperature goes down to -1 to -3 degrees Celsius or more during the winter.
Langtang Valley Trek Permit requirement
Before heading the Langtang trek, you should be aware of two several permits required for the Langtang trek. TIMS and Langtang National Park Entry Permit are the two permits you need.
TIMs card also varies, either if you are an individual trekker or in a group joining trekker. If you are individual trekkers then you get Green Card that costs USD 20. Whereas, if you are a group trekker you get a Blue TIMS card that costs USD 10. And, if you are from SAARC countries, you get a pink one that costs 6 USD.
Langtang National Park Entry Permit
Trekking to any part of the Langtang region, you will trek through Langtang National Park. So, you need to get a special permit card-Langtang National Permit Card. It costs you USD 30. Likewise, for the SAARC countries tourist, it costs USD 15.
